Biography

Tanzania Washington, a dedicated sprinter and hurdler for the track and field team at Fayetteville State University, stands at 5'5" and hails from Greensboro, NC. A graduate of Dudley High School in 2023, Tanzania excelled in her high school career, serving as team captain, earning All-American honors, and becoming a two-time state champion and national championship competitor. Currently a sophomore majoring in Pre-Nursing, she has already made her mark at FSU as a two-time CIAA champion.

Tanzania's journey in athletics is driven by the resilience and hard work instilled in her by her mother, Deadra Black, who has been her greatest influence. Her most memorable sports experience was feeling the energy and support of her teammates at the CIAA Championship. Outside of track and field, Tanzania enjoys running, watching TV, and has a hidden talent for drawing.

She chose FSU because it felt like home and was inspired by Coach Turner, who made her feel confident in her commitment. After graduation, Tanzania plans to become a traveling nurse for four years before specializing in pediatrics. Her college bests include a 200m time of 28.27 seconds, a 400m time of 1:10.49, a 60m hurdles time of 9.27 seconds, and a long jump of 4.59m (15'0.75"). Tanzania is committed to using her talent in track and field to achieve her career goals and make a positive impact in the healthcare field.
