Jayla Williams is a senior sprinter for the Fayetteville State University Track & Field program and one of the Broncos’ most consistent short-sprint performers throughout her collegiate career. A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Williams is a graduate of Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy, where she excelled as a multi-sport athlete in track and cheerleading and was recognized as both a Crosby Scholar and Athlete of the Year. She joined FSU in 2022 and has since developed into a reliable relay leg, an improving individual sprinter, and a steady contributor across both indoor and outdoor seasons.
Standing 5’2”, Williams competes primarily in the 60m, 100m, and 200m, bringing explosive starts and consistent relay execution to the Broncos’ sprint squad. Her collegiate personal bests—7.87 (60m), 12.26 (100m), and 25.73 (200m)—highlight her progression across four seasons.
Throughout her career, Williams has been a key member of several high-performing 4x100m relays, including podium finishes at the 2025 CIAA Outdoor Championships (3rd, 47.42), the 2024 JCSU Golden Bulls Invitational (1st, 47.73), the 2024 Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational (3rd, 47.52), the 2024 adidas Trojan Challenge (2nd, 48.14), and the 2023 adidas Trojan Challenge (2nd, 49.37). Her 2024 season also featured multiple strong open sprint showings, including an 8th-place final finish in the 100m at the APP State Open, where she ran her collegiate-best 12.26.
Williams’ consistency is reflected across each meet she has competed in. In 2025, she recorded notable marks such as 12.32 at the Aggie Invitational and 12.52 at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invite while qualifying for the CIAA Championships in multiple events. Indoors, she has steadily improved her 60m times over her career, highlighted by performances like 7.87 at the 2025 CIAA Indoor Championships and competitive showings at meets including Camel City, the South Carolina Garnet Invitational, and the Marlin Invitational.
Her early collegiate seasons also showcased her growth, with multiple finals appearances in 2023—including at the Mount Olive First Chance Meet—and valuable relay legs at major events such as the Penn Relays, where she helped the Broncos clock a 1:43.98 in the 4x200m.
Beyond athletics, Williams is a standout student majoring in Business Administration, with aspirations of launching her own business after graduation. Known for her observant personality and self-motivated nature, she takes pride in being her own inspiration—driven by her belief in personal growth, perseverance, and self-discipline. Outside the classroom and the track, she enjoys painting and coloring, and she has a hidden talent for hairstyling.
For Williams, being part of the Fayetteville State track and field family has been the most meaningful part of her college experience. Her commitment to the program and her steady competitive presence have made her an integral part of the Broncos’ sprint core throughout her career.
