Fayetteville State University Athletics

Da’Sia Smith, a dedicated thrower for the track and field team at Fayetteville State University, stands at 5'7" and hails from Durham, North Carolina. A graduate of Hillside High School in 2022, Da’Sia is currently a junior majoring in Social Work. Her college bests include a shot put distance of 11.36m (37'3.25"), a discus throw of 33.51m (109'11"), and a javelin throw of 26.36m (86'6").

Da’Sia's journey in athletics has been greatly influenced by her parents, Adrienne and Dante Smith, who have supported her throughout her athletic career. Her most memorable sports experience was winning the CIAA Championship, a testament to her hard work and dedication. Outside of track and field, Da’Sia enjoys watching anime and has a hidden talent for singing.

She chose Fayetteville State University because it offered her an opportunity to further her education and athletic career. After graduation, Da’Sia plans to start a career in the field of social work, where she hopes to make a positive impact in her community.

Da’Sia Smith was inspired to choose the area of social work focused on children and families due to her own experiences growing up and the support she received from her parents. Seeing the positive impact that a strong support system can have on a child's development and well-being motivated her to pursue a career where she can provide similar support to others. Da’Sia is passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and their families, ensuring they have access to the resources and opportunities needed for a brighter future.

Smith looks up to several role models in the field of social work. One of her primary inspirations is her high school social worker, who played a crucial role in supporting students and their families. This social worker's dedication and compassion left a lasting impression on Da’Sia, motivating her to pursue a similar path. Additionally, Da’Sia admires well-known social workers like Jane Addams, whose pioneering work in social reform and advocacy for children and families has inspired her to make a meaningful impact in her community.
