Fayetteville State University Athletics

Mya Sanders is a senior cheerleader and team captain for Fayetteville State University, bringing leadership, experience, and a team-first mentality to the Broncos squad. A native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Sanders graduated from Tallwood High School in 2023 before continuing her academic and athletic journey at Fayetteville State.

Throughout her collegiate career, Sanders has earned the respect of her teammates and coaches through her dedication and leadership. Her accomplishments include being selected as the team's Players' Choice honoree for the 2024-25 season, serving as Co-Captain during the 2025-26 campaign, earning All-CIAA Team honors, and being named Team Captain for the 2026-27 season.

Off the field, Sanders is majoring in Criminal Justice and plans to pursue a career as a juvenile justice counselor after graduation. She enjoys crocheting in her free time and values the support system provided by her coaches, teammates, and family, whom she credits as her biggest athletic influences.

Sanders chose Fayetteville State because of the strong sense of community and family she felt on campus. She believes the university provides an ideal balance between academics and athletics, allowing her to grow both as a student and an athlete. One of her favorite pregame traditions is participating in team huddles, which motivate and energize her before performances.

As a leader on the cheerleading team, Sanders is committed to giving back to her community through volunteer work at elementary schools in her hometown. Her advice to younger athletes reflects her own journey: "It's okay to start from the bottom. Some of the best have to work their way up."
