KERNERSVILLE, NC – Fayetteville State men's cross country delivered a strong performance Friday at the Rams Atlantic Region Preview, finishing second overall in the 8,000-meter race behind a 1-2 finish from Franklin Kipchirchir and Brian Kiprop.

Fayetteville State finished with 53 points, just five points behind team champion Point Park, which totaled 48. Concord followed closely in third with 54 points, only one point behind the Broncos.

Junior Franklin Kipchirchir led the way for Fayetteville State, winning the individual race with a time of 25:29.9. Teammate Brian Kiprop, also a junior, crossed the line just behind him in 25:39.3 to give the Broncos the top two individual finishers.

Junior Dominic Malel added another top-10 performance, finishing sixth overall in 26:09.5. The trio gave Fayetteville State three runners among the first six across the finish line.

Sophomore Rowny Kipchirchir placed 19th with a time of 27:06.7, while junior Ian Kiprono completed the Broncos' scoring five with a 25th-place finish in 27:16.5. Junior Collins Serem rounded out Fayetteville State's competitors, finishing in 28:19.8.

The Broncos' scoring runners finished first, second, sixth, 19th and 25th, giving Fayetteville State 53 points in an exceptionally close team race.

Fayetteville State returns to competition Friday, Oct. 2, when the Broncos travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, for the Lehigh University Paul Short Run.
