The Fayetteville State University football team returns home Saturday for a pivotal CIAA matchup against Bowie State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Luther "Nick" Jeralds Stadium as both teams enter the contest with identical 4-2 conference records.

The Broncos enter the game at 5-3 overall and riding a two-game winning streak following victories over Elizabeth City State and Bluefield State. Bowie State comes to Fayetteville with a 4-4 overall record after defeating Johnson C. Smith 16-9 last week.

About Fayetteville State

Fayetteville State has continued to rely on a strong defense and complementary offense throughout the season, averaging 23.5 points per game while allowing just 17.4 points per contest.

The Broncos are coming off a 51-13 road victory over Bluefield State in which they scored touchdowns on offense, defense, and special teams. Quarterback Jamir Dismukes completed 11-of-16 passes for 117 yards and three touchdowns while adding 70 rushing yards. Running back Malik Fuller added a rushing touchdown, and wide receiver Marcus Fleming caught four passes for 38 yards and a score.

Defensively, Fayetteville State was once again dominant. Kadynce Watson led the Broncos with seven tackles, while Jatavien Taylor added six tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, a sack, and a quarterback hurry. Freshman defensive back Christopher Bentley highlighted the performance with a 76-yard interception return for a touchdown.

For the season, Fayetteville State has forced nine interceptions, averages 31:36 in time of possession, and ranks among the CIAA leaders in defensive efficiency.

About Bowie State

Bowie State enters Saturday's contest with one of the conference's most productive rushing attacks, averaging 174.8 rushing yards per game. The Bulldogs have accumulated 1,398 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns through eight games.

Quarterback Joshuah Keith and running back Maximus Jones lead a ground-oriented offense that relies on controlling the clock and winning field position. Last week against Johnson C. Smith, Bowie State rushed for 150 yards and held the Golden Bulls to only nine points in the victory.

Defensively, the Bulldogs have faced one of the toughest schedules in the league and continue to be led by a group that has forced seven turnovers and limited opponents in critical situations.

Players to Watch

Fayetteville State

  • Jamir Dismukes - Dismukes has accounted for seven total touchdowns over the last two games and continues to be one of the CIAA's most dynamic offensive players. He has thrown for 1,291 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding a significant rushing threat.

  • Marcus Fleming - The veteran receiver remains one of Dismukes' top targets and is coming off a touchdown performance against Bluefield State.

  • Kadynce Watson - Watson led the Broncos in tackles last week and continues to anchor a defense allowing just 17.4 points per game.

Bowie State

  • Maximus Jones - Jones leads Bowie State's rushing attack and will be counted on heavily against a Fayetteville State defense that has been difficult to run against all season.

  • Joshuah Keith - Keith's ability to make plays both through the air and on the ground makes him the catalyst of the Bulldogs' offense.

Keys to the Game

  • Stop the Run
Bowie State averages nearly 175 rushing yards per game and prefers to control the game on the ground. Fayetteville State's defensive front, led by Osirus Rhodes, Jatavien Taylor, and Kadynce Watson, will need to establish control early.

  • Win Time of Possession
The Broncos average 31:36 of possession per game and have been at their best when sustaining long drives. Controlling the football will limit Bowie State's opportunities offensively.

  • Create Turnovers
Fayetteville State has generated nine interceptions this season and has scored defensive touchdowns in consecutive weeks. Big plays on defense could prove decisive in a matchup between two evenly matched CIAA contenders.

What to Expect

Saturday's contest features two teams built around physical defense and the running game. Fayetteville State enters with momentum after back-to-back convincing victories, while Bowie State arrives looking to strengthen its position in the conference standings.

The matchup could come down to which team controls the line of scrimmage and capitalizes on scoring opportunities. With both teams holding 4-2 CIAA records, Saturday's game carries major implications as the regular season enters its final stretch.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Luther "Nick" Jeralds Stadium. Fans can follow live stats and updates on FSUBroncos.com/gameday and on social media by following @FSUBroncos.
