Fayetteville State’s Henderson Named CIAA Bowling Coach of the Year

Charlotte, NC – Fayetteville State University's Robert Henderson was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Bowling Coach of the Year by its Bowling Coaches and Sports Information Directors Association. 

Henderson led the Broncos' bowling program to a 40-2 conference standing and a 31-2 Southern Division record. Fayetteville State will enter the 2023 Bowling Championships in Salem, Virginia at Lee Hi Lanes on Saturday, March 25 with the No. 1 seed as the Southern Division Champion.  

This makes the ninth time Coach of the Year honors have been bestowed upon Henderson. He has received this accolade in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. 

Fayetteville State has won three conference championships (2007, 2011, and 2012) under his leadership. Henderson has coached the Broncos since their inaugural season in 2001.  

Six-time defending champion Bowie State University (44-4 in CIAA, 36-0 in Northern Division play) claims the Northern Division Title and enters the bracket at the No. 2 seed. 
 
FSU and BSU will be joined by No. 3 Johnson C. Smith, No. 4 Elizabeth City State, No. 5 Shaw, No. 6 Virginia Union, No. 7 Livingstone, and No. 8 Virginia State.
