Fayetteville, NC – The Fayetteville State women's bowling program took full advantage of its hometown crowd at the B&B Bowling Lanes to sweep the CIAA Northern Division 9-0.
Paige Rockwell earned the Southern Division's Newcomer High Average Award with a 211 average and
Cecilia Chafin received the High Average Award striking a 210 average.
Rockwell, a freshman from Dayton, OH, had four 200+ games over the first two days. Her best frames were against Elizabeth City State where she knocked down a 246. She opened the weekend with a 208 against Virginia Union and a 234 versus Bowie State. Against the VUU Panthers on day two, Paige scored a 203. Her other two games were 190 and 185.
Chafin, a senior from Fayetteville, also compiled four 200+ games. She had a weekend-best 235 versus Virginia Union followed by a 226 against Bowie State. Her other 200 games were 215 and 211. Cecilia closed out her six games with a 193 and a 180.
Fayetteville State rolled three 1000-point matches on day one of the events to set the momentum of the sweep. FSU opened the weekend with a 1,001-517 victory over Virginia Union. Three Broncos scored above 200 pins in the match. Erika Reed racked a match-high 225 with Chafin knocking down 215. Rockwell followed with 208.
Fayetteville State took down Bowie State 1007-834. Reed led with a 235 and Rockwell followed with one-pin less. The Broncos' best score of the event was 1050 over Elizabeth City State's 719. Four Broncos surpassed the 200-point mark. Rockwell's 246 led with
Angel Pope's 212 and Chafin's 211 in proximity.
Jayda Gignac rolled a 201.
Reed, also a freshman from Dayton, OH, competed in five games and finished with the Broncos' third-highest pin average of 194.6. She had three 200 games, and her lowest games were a 150 and a 160.
Fayetteville State closed the final day of competition with another 3-0 sweep of the Northern Division with a Baker average of 200 pins. The Broncos defeated Elizabeth City State (1029-724), Bowie State (937-889), and Virginia Union (1039-552).
Virginia State was short a bowler, thus scores against the Trojans did not count.
