Richmond, VA -- The Fayetteville State women's bowling team placed third among eight teams in the 12th Annual Virginia Union Bowling Invitational this past weekend at the Bowl America Lanes in Glenn Allen, Virginia. Freshman
Paige Rockwell finished with the third-highest bowling average (182.4) from 912 pinfalls to lead the Broncos.
Cecilia Chafin ranked 9-out-of-51 bowlers with 813 pins and a 162.6 average.

Fayetteville State finished the weekend with a 10-3 record, tied with second place Coppin State. Mount St. Mary's won the event with an 11-2 record. The Broncos had a total of 8,108 pins for a team average of 162.2.

FSU completed the first day of competition with a 4-1 record following an opening-round loss to Norfolk State (811-771). The four victories were over Bowie State (778-749), Virginia Union (750-514) Coppin State (874-818), and Howard (874-742).

The Broncos had the same record of 4-1 after the second round with a loss to Mt. Saint Mary (856-765) and wins over VSU (824-435), NSU (709-699), BSU (865-766), and VUU (760-537).

In Sunday's Championship Bracket, FSU fell to Norfolk State but regained composure with a victory over Bowie State. In its fourth time facing the Spartan of Norfolk State, the Broncos split the record with a victory to claim third place, with NSU dropping to fourth overall.

Ericka Reed finished with 667 pins (166.75 average) for an 18
th-place ranking, while
Angel Pope had a total of 631 (157.75) pins to close out the top 20.

Fayetteville State will return to action on November 11 at the CIAA Event I in Raleigh, NC.
