Raleigh, NC – Fayetteville State University bowling opened conference play this past weekend at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Event I in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Broncos completed a 12-0 sweep of the Southern Division with victories over Livingstone, Johnson C. Smith, and Shaw.
After the first two days of competition, FSU defeated the three institutions three times for a 9-0 record. The Broncos have a pin total of 7,347. Johnson C. Smith was second with 6,278 pins (5-4 record) while Shaw ranked third (6,278 pins; 3-6 record).

Cecilia Chafin had the Southern Division's second-highest pin average with 183.78 in nine matches. Chafin had three 204 scores and a 209. Her five other scores were 155 or better.
Denise Brown shared the division's High Score Award with a 211 in her third match on the first day versus Shaw. Brown had an average pin count of 172.22 in nine matches.
Paige Rockwell had the second-best average for Fayetteville State with 172.50 in eight matches.
Ericka Reed bowled a 153.86 average through seven matches.
Fayetteville State opened the weekend with a 770-555 win over Livingstone followed by an 859-760 decision against Johnson C. Smith. Shaw was the next victim with a match score of 870-714. FSU doubled down on the LC Blue Bears with a 749-636 score in match #4. The final match of the day was a 798-685 defeat over JCSU.
FSU finished the second day with sweeps over Shaw (911-717; 822-743), J.C. Smith (764-673), and Livingstone (804-552).
Fayetteville State will be back on the lanes on the weekend of January 26 – 29 for the CIAA Event II in Elizabeth City, NC.
