FSU Broncos Bowling Leads CIAA South Following First Conference Event

Bowie, MD – Fayetteville State leads the CIAA Southern Division after wrapping up a 10-2 weekend at the CIAA Bowling Event I in Bowie, Maryland.  With the same record as Johnson C. Smith University (10-2), FSU had a total of 9,599 pins over JCSU's 9,438. Junior Cecilia Chafin (Fayetteville, NC) led the Broncos as the Southern Division's highest bowler.  Chafin finished with a total of 1,371 pins over eight games for an average of 171.38.
 
Fayetteville State finished in the number one spot after the first day of competition with 3,023 pins and a 3-1 record.  The Broncos opened the event with a 710-675 victory over Livingstone where Chafin rolled her best of four games with a 202 pin-count.
 
FSU dropped its second match to Johnson C. Smith 837-810 and rebounded in the final two matches with a 758-581 victory over Shaw and another win over Livingstone by the score of 746-618.
 
The Broncos swept through the three divisional opponents in the second day of competition with a 792-568 win over the SU Bears, a 732-585 win over the LC Blue Bears, and double wins over the JCSU Golden Bulls. The first match was 788-710 and the second was 808-765.
 
Fayetteville State finished the final day of Baker Matches with a 3-1 record. The Broncos fell to JCSU 911-951 in the first match and went 817-567 against Shaw, 961-625 against Livingstone, and 756-621 against Livingstone a second time.
 
Cheyenne Stahnke finished with an average of 161 pins over 8 games. Her fifth game of 195 pins was her highest. Denise Brown was right behind her with a 156.29 average.
 
Fayetteville State will participate in the CIAA Event II from January 28th to the 30th in Salisbury, NC.
