Bowie, MD – Fayetteville State closed out the 2019 season at the CIAA Tennis Championship with a 4-0 loss to fourth-seeded Winston-Salem State on the courts of Bowie State University in Bowie, MD.
During the opening ceremony, Freshman
Arnisha Cosby (Washington, DC) was recognized as a member of the All-CIAA Team for her performance at the No. 2 singles position with a 12-3 overall record.
The fifth-seeded Broncos had a competitive loss to the Rams. WSSU took a 6-0 win at the No. 1 doubles and a 6-1 victory at No. 3 to claim the doubles point.
In the best of 7 points clinch format, Winston-Salem State grabbed a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 3 singles when Avion Harris defeated
Kayla Williams.
The Rams went ahead 3-0 after Kyrsten Jennelle defeated
Jayla Wooten 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 4 court and clinched the victory with a 6-4, 6-1 win with Taylor Champion defeating
Kristin Jackson at No. 1.
Zyaja Mattocks was split with Cylah Gaither 4-6 and 6-2 before the match was clinched.
Lauryn Clark's play against Kyra Akande went unfinished along with
Arnisha Cosby's game against China Brown.
The championship tournament will continue tomorrow at the Bowie State University tennis courts and the crowning of the 2019 champions will happen on Saturday.
