Fayetteville, N.C. – Fayetteville State took a 6-1 victory over Livingstone today in CIAA Southern Division action on the Capel Arena tennis courts to complete a season sweep over the Blue Bears.
The Broncos improved to 6-6 overall and 5-4 in the conference standings. Livingstone is on a 11-game losing streak and has not won a conference match in eight tries.
FSU won all three doubles matches with
Kayla Williams and
Arnisha Cosby taking a 7-5 win over Mariah Mason and Maggie Henderson.
Jayla Wooten and
Kristin Jackson defeated Brianna Hunter and Samone Mitchell 6-1.
Amber Gladden and
Lauryn Clark won the No. 3 doubles with a 6-0 set against Serenia Murdaugh and Jamyse Bell.
The Broncos won five-out-of-six matches in singles play. Jackson defeated Henderson 6-4 in the No. 1 match, which ended up being the longest match of the day with only one set played.
Cosby defeated Mason twice with the score of 6-0 at No. 2 and so did
Zyaja Mattocks at No. 6. In the No. 4 singles match, Clark laid it to Hunter 6-0 and 6-1 while Wooten had the same score against Bell on the No. 5 court.
Kayla Williams went the distance against Samone Mitchell but suffered the loss (6-2, 4-6, and 8-10) in the No. 3 singles match.
Fayetteville State will return to the courts tomorrow to honor its lone senior,
Amber Gladden, before taking on the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith at 1 p.m.
