Henderson Named Coach of the Year and 4 Broncos to All-CIAA Team

Charlotte, N.C. – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in conjunction with its Bowling Coaches Association announced Fayetteville State's head bowling coach Robert "Bobby" Henderson as the 2018-19 Women's Bowling Coach of the Year during the opening ceremony of the 2019 CIAA Bowling Championships at the AMF Lynnhaven Lanes in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Four Broncos (Brittany Worthy, Savannah Starling, Angel Pope, and Cheyenne Stahnke) were named to the All-CIAA Bowling Team.

Bobby Henderson
Coach Henderson has been named the coach of the year for three consecutive seasons. He led Fayetteville State to a perfect 51-0 conference season this year and a 53-11 overall record and its 18th CIAA Southern Division Title . This is the seventh time Henderson has received this honor.
 
Brittany Worthy was made the All-CIAA Team for the third straight time. The junior bowler from Durham, N.C. bowled 38 conference games this season and has finished the regular season with a 6,680 pin count. Her 175.79 average ranks fifth among CIAA bowlers. Worthy's highest game was 228 on March 8.
 
Last year's CIAA Bowler of the Year Savannah Starling has the seventh best conference average with a 171.57. The All-CIAA Bowler was in 37 games this season and knocked down a total of 6,348 pins with her highest game at 221.  The junior bowler from Fayetteville, N.C. has been on the All-CIAA team since her rookie season.
 
Freshman Angel Pope (Fayetteville, N.C.) will make her debut on the All-CIAA Team with the conference's eighth overall average of 169.43 from a pin total of 5,930 in 35 games.
 
Cheyenne Stahnke (Freshman - Lumberton, N.C.) rounds out the All-CIAA Team with a 166.94 average from 5,509 pins in 33 games.
 
The ten highest bowling averages from the four conference sanctioned events are named all-conference. Ariel Haith, a senior at Virginia State University, was named the Bowler of the Year with the highest average of 185.48 in 40 games bowled. Freshman Cayla Snowden of Bowie State University was named the Rookie of the Year with the highest average of all newcomers with a 177.97 in 39 games.
 
Fayetteville State will open the CIAA Bowling Championship on Saturday, March 23rd in Virginia Beach, Va. as the No. 1 Seed. Eight institutions qualified for the eight-round championship bracket. The Broncos will take on No. 8 Saint Augustine's in the first round and the winner of the Virginia Union vs. Shaw in the second round.
