Fayetteville, NC - The Fayetteville State University men's golf team shot 319 in the second round of the 2016 CIAA Southern Divisional Tournament to win by four strokes (+66) on Tuesday, March 8th at the Par 72, 643-yard Gates Four Golf & Country Club Blue Tees course. FSU placed third in this same event last season.
Sophomore Jared Chinn (Ft. Bragg, NC) fired an even par (72) on day two to win the individual medalist honor. He improved by four strokes from his day one 76 for a total 148 (+4). Freshman Isaiah Shaw (Altamonte Springs, FL) finished fourth on the leaderboard. Shaw shot 80 on day two for a 157 total (+13).
The Broncos battled back from a four-stroke, day one deficit. Fayetteville State trailed Livingstone 323-319 after the first day of competition.
Senior Christopher Jackson (Raeford, NC) helped maintain the pace with a repeat 84 score on day two. Jackson finished tied for 17th with a total 168. Freshman Christian Villanueva (Fayetteville, NC) shot 83 to improve by three strokes from his day one score. Villanueva finished tied for 19th with a total 169.
Sophomore Austin Parlett rounded out the Bronco golfers with a total 181 for 26th on the leaderboard. Parlett proved to be the difference maker with a nine stroke improvement on day two (85).
Chowan had a day two best score of 318 to finish second in the tournament. Livingstone shot 330 on day two for a total 649 and a third place finish.
Chinn and Shaw both earned All-Tournament honors. Philip Harrison of Livingstone had a total 151 for second overall. Dejuan Powell of Johnson C. Smith and Jordan Francis of Chowan finished in third and fourth, respectively. These five complete the All-Tournament Team.
The Broncos return to the greens on Friday, March 11th in the Anderson Creek Invitational. Tee time is scheduled for 12 noon at the Anderson Creek Golf Course in Spring Lake, NC.
