LADY BRONCOS BOWLING CAPS CIAA ROUNDUP WITH FOURTH PLACE RANKING

Fayetteville, NC ââ'¬" The Fayetteville State University women's bowling team finished the CIAA Roundup with a record of 9-6 after team and baker's matches and a total pin count of 13172. The Lady Broncos had a 3-2 record on day two of team matches and 2-3 mark in bakers.

FSU concluded the first day of competition with a 4-1 record, only losing to Bowie State. On day two, Fayetteville State redeemed the loss with a 967-859 victory over the Lady Bulldogs. Sophomore Devondra Bazemore (Fayetteville, NC) and senior Renee Guischard (Fayetteville, NC) rolled single match event-highs against Bowie State. Bazemore bowled a 225 game, while Guischard turned a 214 performance.

The Lady Broncos defeated Virginia Union (860-800) and Chowan (838-634) in team matches on day two. However, Virginia State (981-895) and Elizabeth City State (849-816) claimed victories over Fayetteville State.

Despite the loss, freshman Veronica Colon-Santiago (Hope Mills, NC) rolled a 220 versus the Lady Trojans. Junior Jasmin Aponte (Fayetteville, NC) had 201 game against ECSU; her high of day two. Aponte averaged a team-high 193.8 over the two days of team match competition.

In baker's matches, the Lady Broncos began with a dominating 959-745 win over Chowan. Fayetteville State slumped and suffered three consecutive losses. Bowie State won the second baker's match 843-822, Virginia Union off an 831-815 upset, and Virginia State squeezed out a 921-905 win.

Fayetteville State closed out the event with an 898-800 win over Chowan in the last baker's match.

Virginia State finished ranked first overall with a 14-1 record and 13900 total pin count. Bowie State finished second overall with a 12-3 mark and 13172 total pins. Elizabeth City State rounded out the top three with a 10-5 record and 11768 total pins.

The Lady Broncos return to the lanes on Friday, February 19th in the Brunswick Aggie Invitational hosted by North Carolina A&T State University. The Aggies will host the three-day event (Feb. 19-21) at All-Star Lanes in Greensboro, NC.
