LADY BRONCOS BOWLING FINISHES THIRD AT CIAA CHAMPIONSHIP

Chesapeake, VA - The Fayetteville State University bowling team finished third overall at the 2015 Bowling Championship held March 20-22 at AMF Western Brach Lanes. FSU concludes the season with a 43-11 overall record, including a CIAA Southern Division title and a 30-0 record in the division.

FSU advanced into the winner's bracket with a 4-1 win over Saint Augustine's on Saturday afternoon. Along with the No. 4 seeded Lady Broncos, Bowie State (No. 1 seed), Virginia State (No. 2 seed), and Shaw (No. 6 seed) started off Sunday matches in the winner's bracket.

Matches were structured as double-elimination Baker brackets to determine the conference champion.

The Lady Broncos advanced through the winner's bracket with a 4-0 victory over Virginia State. Bowie State also topped Shaw 4-0 to meet FSU in the next round. Fayetteville State fell into the loser's bracket after suffering a 4-1 loss to the Lady Bulldogs.

Virginia State earned a rematch against the Lady Broncos by eliminating Saint Augustine's (4-1) and Elizabeth City State (4-1).

In the semi-final, FSU won the first set over Virginia State 144-128 in the best 4-of-7 format. VSU won the second set 154-149 to tie the match 1-1. The Lady Broncos fell behind 3-1 with losses in the third (157-147) and fourth (136-114) sets.

Fayetteville State fought back with an impressive 182-123 win the fifth set. Sadly, FSU dropped the sixth set by one pin (168-167) and were eliminated 4-2.

Bowie State defeated defending champion Lady Trojans 4-1 in the finals to finish unbeaten in four bracket play matches.

Led by Co-Most Valuable Bowlers Ambrianna Bankston and Shayla Lightfoot, Bowie State won the last three games in the championship match to earn its fifth CIAA title, including its third in six seasons.

The All-CIAA Tournament team consists of Brittany Rowe of Johnson C. Smith, Sierra Davis of Bowie State, Nicole Sciortino of Saint Augustine's, Brooke Roberts of Elizabeth City State and Rebecca Clements of Virginia State.

Junior Renee Guischard (Fayetteville, NC) placed 12th overall with an average of 163. Senior Crystal Mujica (Fayetteville, NC) finished 16th with an average of 159.20, followed by sophomore Jasmin Aponte (Fayetteville, NC), whom averaged 156.20 for 18th place.
