CAMP LEJUNE, N.C. - No one played better to close out the Scarlet Championship at the Marines Intercollegiate Golf Tournament than Fayetteville State's Jacob Barge.
Barge, a junior from Fayetteville, rocketed up the leaderboard after firing rounds of 67 and 64 - a total of 9-under par at Paradise Point Golf Club's Scarlet Course - to finish second overall at the three-day tournament over the weekend.
Barge has won twice already this season and was coming off a victory in the CIAA Northern Division Tournament. He opened the Marines tournament with a 5-over 77 at the Gold Course before leading Fayetteville State to an eighth-place finish overall with the brilliant weekend. Barge finished two shots back of Roanoke's Brandon Ketron (69-68-69-206).
The Broncos, who will be seeking their 26th conference championship when they play in the CIAA Championship in three weeks, also got a nice effort from Brandon Jobe (Fr., Fayetteville, N.C.), who has also won this season. Jobe had rounds of 78-71-68 for a 5-over total of 217, good for a tie for 19th.
Rounding out Fayetteville State's scoring was Jedidiah Frazier (So., Havelock, N.C.), who had rounds of 76-70-74 to tie for 30th at 8 over. Lincoln Jackson (Sr., Southern Pines, N.C.) had a 234 total (83-78-73) to finish in a tie for 71st.
Guilford College won the Scarlet Championship with a team total of 11-over 859. Fayetteville State finished with an 879, which was good for eighth out of 16 teams.
