FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Fayetteville State landed three bowlers in the top four - with two taking the top spots -- after the third event of the CIAA Southern Division season over the weekend at B&B Bowling Lanes in Fayetteville.
Akira Turner (Sr., Detriot, MI) rolled an average of 203.2, the best in the meet. She rolled six games over 200 in the five-member matches in the first two days of the event, recording high scores of 233, 226 and 223.
Fayetteville State's Jamie Donnelly (So., Fayetteville, NC) had the second-best average of the meet, coming in with an average of 196.1, which featured a high game of 248 and five games over 200. Donnelly's 248 was the high score of the weekend.
And De'Andrea Bethea (Fr., Raleigh, NC) finished the weekend with a 181.2 average, good for fourth in the event. She rolled three games over 200, finishing with a high of 235.
The Lady Broncos, ranked 22nd in the latest national rankings, finished the weekend 14-1, falling 688-687 to Winston-Salem State in a Baker match on Sunday. It is the first time Fayetteville State has lost a match to a Southern Division opponent this season.
Still, the Lady Broncos continue to roll. Fayetteville State leads the CIAA in scoring average (891.2) and in Baker average (180), as well as Baker series score (831). The Broncos ran their Southern Division record to an amazing 44-1 and moved to 56-7 in the CIAA and 59-12 overall.
The Lady Broncos' Kelly Wakerhauser (Portage, WI) was seventh overall at this weekend's event, finishing with a 164.6 average with a game-high of 189, rolling over 180 four times.
And Fayetteville State's Daisy Weishman (Fr., Fayetteville, NC) was 15th overall to place all five of Fayetteville's State's bowlers in the top 15 of the individual standings. No other team had more than tree. Weishman rolled an average of 154.8 with a game-high of 183, topping 180 three times.
Fayetteville State returns to action for the CIAA Bowling Championships in Durham in mid-March.
