LADY BRONCOS ARE IMPRESSIVE IN BOWLING OPENER

Nov. 21, 2011

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Fayetteville State Lady Broncos picked up right where they left off.

The defending CIAA Bowling Champions cruised through the first CIAA Southern Division meet of the season over the weekend, romping to a 10-1.

Freshman Fayetteville native Crystal Mujica showed no signs of anxiety at the meet, finishing with the highest average at 169.5, which included the high game of the meet at 235. Four Lady Broncos' bowlers finished among the top 5 in scoring average, with Kiara Reid (Sr., Rocky Mount, N.C.) third at 167.8, Megan Maynor (Fr., Fayetteville, N.C.) fourth at 152.6 and Kelly Wakerhauser (Sr., Portage, Wis.) fifth at 151.7.

Wakerhauser was the lone returning bowler from the championship "Fab Five" Fayetteville State team to compete in the season-opener. 2010-11 CIAA Rookie of the Year De'Andrea Bethea (So., Raleigh, N.C.) is out with an injury, as is returner Daisy Weishman (So., Seoul, Korea). Both are expected back in January.

The Lady Broncos' lone loss came against St. Augustine's, which prevailed 745-717. But the Lady Falcons were just 7-4 on the weekend to tie Winston-Salem State for second place at the meet. Fayetteville State led in total match pins with 6,149, with St. Augustine's (5,536), Winston-Salem State (5,358), Livingstone (4,702) and Johnson C. Smith (4,375) rounding out the order.

Fayetteville State, which bowls again in the Lady Bulldog Classic from Jan. 20-22 in Laurel, Mary., also got a 126.8 average from Teodra Payne.
