FSU BOWLERS SECURE CIAA DIVISIONAL CROWN IN CONFERENCE FINALE

Fayetteville, NC - Fayetteville State swept the final CIAA Western Division Event (12-0) this past weekend in Charlotte, NC for the Western Division Title. The Lady Broncos had 24 team match points and six baker points for the winning event score. Host Johnson C. Smith finished second with 20 event points while Saint Augustine's followed with 16. Jessica Florit (senior - Sanford, NC) bowled and average of 197.1 to earn the Western Division Bowler of the Week honors. She had a total of five 200+ games and a game high of 228. Kiara Reid (freshman - Rocky Mount, NC) led all rookies in the Western Division with an average of 158 pins. Reid had one 200+ game.

Fayetteville State opened the weekend by defeating Livingstone 825-563, JC Smith 836-609, Shaw 762-595, and St. Augustine's 838-832 on Friday. Kiara Reid bowled the team's highest score of 231 against the Lady Blue Bears. For the day, Florit had a total of 989 pins in five matches.

The Lady Broncos had a second day of perfection with wins over all of its divisional opponents. FSU defeated the Lady Falcons 828-714, the Lady Blue Bears 668-612, the Lady Golden Bulls 723-720, and the Lady Bears 805-670. Jessica Florit rolled a 230 over Shaw. She had three 200+ games on the day.

On the final day, during the Baker Match, FSU (with a combined effort) knocked down the competition for a 4-0 sweep.

Akira Turner (sophomore - Detroit, MI) had the second highest bowling average of 165.2.

Fayetteville State has a conference record of 33-3 and an overall record of 47-27. The Lady Broncos have the highest winning percentage in the CIAA at 91.6%. Bowie State University is a close second with a 29-7 record (80.5%) Elizabeth City State ranks third with 75% (27-9 record). FSU will be bowling for the conference championships from March 20th through the 22nd in Durham, NC at the AMF Durham Lanes.
