Friday, January 4, 2008 - Fayetteville, NC - Tuesday, January 8th will mark the first of many promotional game nights this basketball season at Fayetteville State University. The first event has been entitled "Gospel Hoop Night" as Fayetteville State's Men and Women teams' take on Virginia Union University. The women's game will begin at 5:30 pm with the men following inside Felton J. Capel Arena.
The McDonald Sisters, a musical family and winners of the Prestige Award for Female Quartet of the Year, will perform the National Anthem prior to the men's game. The McDonald Sisters are natives of Fayetteville, NC and the first female gospel quartet in Fayetteville and surrounding areas to have a sold out gospel concert at the Cumberland County Memorial Auditorium.
Fans and spectators will have opportunities to participate in halftime entertainment such as: Ramp It Up, Two-man Relay, and Text-to-win contests.
In the "Ramp It Up" contest, a randomly selected student will test their basketball skills for a chance to win a free semester of tuition! The selected student must complete a lay-up, a free throw, a 3-point shot, and a half court shot within a specified time. Each skill must be successfully completed in order to continue to the next skill. If the attempt is incomplete, the student must begin the skill challenge from the beginning.
In the "Two-man Relay", two youth participants will compete against one another in dressing themselves in mock uniforms and dashing to the finish line. The uniform will consist of an extra large pair of shoes, basketball shorts, and a basketball jersey. The first youth participant to reach the finishing point fully dressed will be the winner.
Upon entering the game, event attendees will be asked to complete an entry form to include their cell phone number. The winning cell number will receive a special text message for a prize.
This event will also showcase the newly designed basketball court inside Capel Arena.
