Charlotte, NC - The Lady Bowlers will be seeking their first CIAA Bowling Championship as they head into the 7th Annual Bowling Championship at AMF University Lanes. The tournament, which runs Sunday, November 11th through Tuesday, November 13th, has FSU heavily favorite to win its first title.
The Lady Broncos ended regular season play 59-1, losing only to Saint Paul's College in the 7th Annual East-West Bowling Tournament held at B & Bowling Lanes in Fayetteville, NC. Coach Bobby Henderson and the Lady Broncos have won six Western Division Champions but never a CIAA title. The best they have ever done in the championship series is second place in 2007. FSU got off to a great start day one of the tournament, posting a 5-0 record with a team average score of 844.4.
"Our bowlers worked hard to prepare for this tournament." said Coach Henderson. "We bowled well in all our regular season matches, but even more important is this group really practiced well all season and kept improving with every bowling match." The Lady Broncos are currently ranked 15th in the National Tenpin Bowling Association. The ranking groups both Division I and Division II schools. "To be ranked this high by the NCAA Committee, tells you something about our program," said Coach Henderson.
The Lady Broncos consist of three players from Fayetteville, senior Jennifer Montgomery, junior Jessica Donnelly, and sophomore Christina Henry. Both Donnelly and Henry attended Douglas Byrd High School and Montgomery graduated from 71st High School. Jessica Florit is a native of Sanford, NC and graduated from Lee County High. The team has added two bowlers from outside North Carolina. Akira Turner hailing from Detroit, MI and Danielle Fesco joined the FSU family from Redford, MI.
Everyone on the Lady Broncos bowling team is aware of the fight that lies ahead for them to bring home the championship.
Day two will feature Baker Match Eliminations and rankings to structure the double elimination bracket which begins Monday, November 12th at 9:00am inside the University AMF Lanes.
