Hampton, VA - Fayetteville State University's dynamic duo of Jessica Donnelly and Akira Turner have been recognized by Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) as Player and Rookie of the week respectively in bowling for the second consecutive week.
Donnelly, a Fayetteville, NC native, contributed to the Lady Broncos posting a 14-1 team record during the CIAA Bowling Round Up (Oct. 19-21). The junior pre-nursing major had a 208 average for the event, including five 200 games (238, 232, 213, 205, 257). Her performance for the week earned her CIAA Player of the Week honors for the second straight week and led the Lady Broncos to 44-1 record, tops in the CIAA.
Turner, a freshman from Detroit, MI, was just as impressive as her teammate during the round up. The computer science major finished with a 207 average for the event, with seven 200 games (214, 209, 235, 224, 213, 212, 212).
Fayetteville State, the first school in the CIAA to bowl a team score of 1000 or more, accomplished the feat for the second consecutive week; including three 1000 plus baker's score in a row. The Lady Broncos' victory marks the first time in CIAA history a western division team has won the round up.
The Lady Broncos return to the lanes for a divisional meet hosted by Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC November 2nd-4th.
